STUTTERING
Some stutters are easy to recognise, like when children repeat sounds at the beginning of words,"M-m-m-my name is...." They may even repeat words or whole phrases, "My my my name is..." or, "My name is...my name is...my name is..." Other stutters can leave the listener a bit confused - you can hear that something is not quite right, but have trouble putting your finger on what it is. These might be stutters where the child is stretching the sound, "Mmmmy nnnname is..." or where the sound gets stuck on the way out, "m--------my name is..."
Not all children are upset by having a stutter, but some children find that it significantly affects the way they communicate, as well as their confidence. There are different ways to treat a stutter depending on the age of the child. If you want to chat about whether your child needs treatment, and what the options are, give me a ring.
Prior to working with Christian, I was at a complete loss how to approach our 3 year old daughter's stutter. I felt concern about my child’s speech & I was overwhelmed, until we began our sessions & it became evident that Christian is an exceptional Speech-Language Therapist.
Christian is academic & very considered & our preschooler loved him. Because he is personable & engaging, Christian creatively turned our therapy into fun games which resonated with our girl. For me, he was a source of knowledge & advice, providing excellent guidance & encouragement to resolve our child's stutter.
It has been such a pleasure working with Christian. We have since seen an enhancement in our wee girl’s self assurance & confidence, which we attribute completely to Christian.
